One person has died and two people were sent to hospital in serious but stable condition, Alberta Health Services confirmed Tuesday evening, after a crash that involved at least two vehicles.
Emergency workers were seen doing chest compressions on two patients on the roadway shortly after 8 p.m., and smoke was in the air after one vehicle caught fire. One person was seen being taken away on a stretcher. A white tarp was observed lying on the ground before 9 p.m.
The front of a dark-coloured Honda was smashed into the guardrail near the north side of the bridge. Fire damage to the car appeared to be extensive.
The bumper of a second vehicle, a red Ford Ranger truck, was dented, and the hood was bent.
Paramedics, firefighters, and police were at the scene Tuesday around 8 p.m., and began blocking access to the road approaching the bridge and the pedestrian crossings on both sides.
